To honor Madonna’s multi-decade career, collaborating with Geordon Nicol + her in-house creative team, we aimed to develop a highly-curated print pattern set to embellish a reversible bomber-jacket, conceptually aiming to reflect the fearlessness, provocation, and artistry that defines her legacy.

After much research, we ultimately drew specific inspiration from her highly referenced late-’90s Erotica era, a groundbreaking, sex-positive movement that in many ways encapsulated her career as a boundary pushing global pop-star.

To embody the bold and evocative aesthetic of this period, we studied SEX shot by Steven Miesel, Madonna’s influential erotic fueled art book—a visual anthology that explored her own sexuality, challenged cultural taboos, & pushed artistic expression- naturally igniting global conversations about feminism, sexual freedom, and empowerment.

Through this visual lens, we could curate more moments from both past & present that further embodied this essence in her art and iconography.

The process focused on incredibly meticulous choices; conducting extensive research into her past, present & future, hand-picking every image- ultimately planning to be assembled like a puzzle. Each piece chosen dependent on emotion evoked, pose, layout, recognizability- in its exact place for the overall vision to come together.

From early career photoshoots to present day instagram posts, all corners of her career were examined to further hone in the time-capsule like quality we were trying to achieve.

Once imagery was chosen, the next challenge became about developing a system to treat the varying qualities and properties of each portrait, while still ensuring visual cohesion.

Filter Approach: Utilizing a blend of photo manipulation, 3D/2D design, and advanced retouching techniques, I developed a blue toned digital-collage effect that echoed the analog artistry of Madonna’s SEX book we've been focused on referencing. Combining referenced color palettes, to varying ripped paper-like quality- These methods allowed me to seamlessly merge the real and the imagined, resulting in a dynamic, multilayered visual scape. Digital tools like Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and Fresco offered the flexibility to experiment with texture and depth while maintaining a polished, impactful finish.

Application: The next challenge became about placement- finding ways to angle, rotate, and seamlessly intertwine each image on one print, so that once applied to the garment there were no repetitive imagery or unseen overlaps. We were able to find a balance of the two while managing to keep visual consistency by mimicking the organized chaos executed similarly in her SEX book- this visual haphazardness gave present an organic quality to the collage that covered and hid any gaps but kept true to our vision.

Much like Madonna herself—who has continually fused art and technology in groundbreaking ways—I sought to create a piece that transcends traditional fashion. The final jacket stands as both a garment and a multimedia statement, honoring Madonna’s legacy of pushing artistic boundaries and engaging audiences through bold, progressive storytelling.

Photo manipulatio + 3D/2D design techniques for Madonna's FINALLY ENOUGH LOVE Pride NYC Show

A digitally illustrated e-vite for Madonna’s Pride NYC show, designed to celebrate the iconography of her mutli-decade career. Through layered photo manipulation, neon glow effects, and custom typography we were able to mimic the look of a late-night club marquee reminiscent of her early career in NYC.

Silhouettes and signage were created using vector graphics and glow blending modes in Adobe Photoshop + Illustrator, while brick textures and Madonna imagery were integrated through compositing techniques to ground the visual in a gritty urban environment. The final piece merges nostalgia with pop spectacle, mirroring Madonna’s legacy of reinvention and LGBTQ+ celebration.
